Before You Open Your Bible

Before You Open Your Bible

This month I want to highlight a great bible study tool. Many of us are heading into new small groups or Bible studies and this tool can aid in developing the right posture as we come to God’s Word.  This 79-page booklet walks you through approaching the Bible prayerfully, humbly, desperately, studiously, obediently, joyfully, expectantly, communally, and Christocentrically.

My most applied take-away was coming to God in prayer first and asking Him to I-O-U-S:

I – Incline my heart to your testimonies and not to selfish gain. Ps. 119:36

O – Open my eyes that I might see wonderful things from your law. Ps. 119:18

U – Unite my heart to fear your name. Ps. 86:11

S – Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love. Ps. 90:14

It’s amazing how often I’ve experienced these exact prayers being answered through my time in the Word! It has greatly enriched my relationship with God and therefore, my worship. The end goal of Bible Study is worship of God. I pray we all can approach His Word with a posture that turns our hearts to praise of Him. Happy Bible Studying!!!
