Ambushing Satan with Song

I took this title from a totally awesome sermon from John Piper I listened to this month. Piper says “the enemies of God are thrown into confusion by the songs of the saints. God has appointed the use of spiritual song as an effective weapon against Satan, and singing is not just a response to grace, singing is a means of grace – it is power! (2 Chron. 21, Acts 16) Because of this Satan does his best to keep us from being singing people.”

Music is one of the most life-giving things in my life at this time. Particularly music that I participate in it. Adam plays the piano and we have recently taken to singing together regularly at home. The cares of the day and the fears of the heart fade away when we sing hymns, both old and new.

When all else fails (or maybe even before then) lift your voice in song, proclaiming the glorious, eternal truths of the God who fights our battles, and see the enemy flee!
